Details

All previous browsers have respected the html
between the applet and end applet tags when there
is no Java plugin/implementation available.  Not
doing so presents a serious navigation problem for
legacy sites that use applets.
According to the HTML DTD, this content should only be rendered by browsers that
don't understand this element as a alternative. Mozilla understands the APPLET
element and ignores this content.
