Description: The user paired the device to a Surface tablet (Win8 and later Win10) which has V4 bluetooth. Files can be sent from the Surface to the test device, but files sent from the test device fail to send shortly after starting the transfer. This was tested with .jpg and .png of various sizes. Repro Steps: 1) Update a Aries to 20150730145424 2) Go to Settings > Bluetooth and pair the device to a laptop/tablet with V4 bluetooth. 3) Go to Gallery, select a photo, and share via bluetooth. Actual: File transfer fails shortly after starting. Expected: File transfers successfully. Note: This is a built in V4 bluetooth device, as opposed to a dongle.

Nicholas, Can Android devices and Mac send files to Surface successfully? We don't have a Surface on hand right now so want to acquire more info before we get one.

(In reply to Naoki Hirata :nhirata (please use needinfo instead of cc) from comment #5) > Created attachment 8641879 [details] > logcat.txt > > Aries to mac will not transfer as well. Did you enable bluetooth sharing on mac as following? Aries should work with Mac with the setting ON. == https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G/Bluetooth#FAQ 5. Why can't I send a file to or receive a file from my Mac? If you would like to share files to Mac, the file-transfer function should be enabled beforehand. 1. Click the Bluetooth icon at the top-right corner of the screen 2. Select "Open Bluetooth Preferences" from the drop down menu, then click the "Sharing Setup..." button at the bottom right of the dialog that opens 3. Make sure the "Bluetooth Sharing" checkbox is enabled. Please see https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18969 for more information.

I'll try with another device to the same computers and report. I can transfer file from Aries 2.5 to my Ubuntu installed Toshiba NB. Can you provide symptom video for us to investigate? Also the following information would be also helpful: 1) Which Win8 PC do you use? 2) Which Linux PC do you use? 3) Which version of Linux/Ubuntu do you use? 4) Do you use addition bluetooth dongle or built-in bluetooth module?

(In reply to Nicholas Nelson [:NicholasN] from comment #2) > Note: This is a built in V4 bluetooth device, as opposed to a dongle. Nicholas, what do you mean "V4 bluetooth device" exactly? Do you mean a device supporting bluetooth 4.0 and above?

I can send files to an Win 10 PC. Can you check whether you've followed instructions as [1][2] to accept file transfer on win 8? Hi Ben, I can reproduce this issue with linux pc using the latest m-c. After pairing with Ubuntu 12.04, and tapping share with bluetooth in gallery, notification shows "File transfter cancelled." Just a notice I tried to transfer to my Linux but I admit the issue could come from my side. I still intend to try with a Windows 8 using the information you provided but didn't find the time yet.

After closer look, there is a setting "Receive Files over Bluetooth" on Ubuntu that needs to be checked in order for file transfers to be successful. See http://askubuntu.com/questions/131570/how-do-you-make-ubuntu-accept-files-sent-over-bluetooth for more details. Similar setting applies to Windows and Android. File transfers are successful after setting is checked.

Forgot to mention Ubuntu also requires to enable setting to accept incoming file transfer. == https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G/Bluetooth#FAQ Why can't I receive a file from my Ubuntu laptop/desktop? On Ubuntu 12.04/12.10, the function of receiving a file from remote Bluetooth devices is disabled by default. Therefore you have to turn it on then try again. 1. Go to "Personal File Saring" 2. Check the item "Receive files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth"

I enabled this on my Debian but I think I still have an error. That's why I want to try on another system before reporting more.

Besides trying to send file from Aries to another system, please also try sending files from Android phones/other devices to the system to know if it's Aries-only problem. The step clarifies whether to check sender or receiver first. Thanks. (In reply to Julien Wajsberg [:julienw] from comment #17) > I enabled this on my Debian but I think I still have an error. Hi (In reply to Julien Wajsberg [:julienw] from comment #17) > I enabled this on my Debian but I think I still have an error. That's why I > want to try on another system before reporting more. I just want to add that I'm on Debian 8 and also have problems with file transfers. I generally use Windows for testing this, because Debian doesn't seem to support it correctly.

Denominate 2.6? now to save tracking effort. Please renominate once the problem is confirmed per comment 17.

I managed to send a file from a Android 4.3 to a Windows 8 PC. But I couldn't send anything from my FxOS phone to the same Win8 PC. I don't have latest FOTA update though, could that be the issue ?
