Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.7+)
Gecko/20020109
BuildID: 2002010903

This is probably entered somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere...

Change the following settings:

mail account window, copies and folders and set the drafts folder, or the
templates folder or the sent folder to the sent folder on local folders.

Close the prefs window

You should see that the drafts icon has been removed from the account.

Now you can delete the folder if you want to.

Restart mozilla, open mail

Now the folders are back, the icons in place, but in the preferences the drafts
folder (or any of the others) is still set to local folders.

Reproducible: Always
There has been a change in Mozilla, now I can't even delete the drafts folder
that is not even used. With 5 accounts these folder just take up space, I set
all accounts to put their drafts, trash and such in the local folders, and that
works.

But I still can't remove the drafts (trash, sent etc) folders from all other
accounts.
Even manually deleting the files won't work... Is there a way I can get mozilla
to understand I don't need those folders, as I'm not using them?

It seems very strange that if you designate a folder to be your drafts folder,
that you can't delete the original one. The same applies for trash, sent etc.
this certainly is the case... I can't delete the drafts folder either.

I confirm this. It's VERY annoying.
This problem has shown up multiple times in various bugs and in the newsgroups.
The issue has been ignored in the newsgroups and the bugs have been resolved as
duplicates of either bug 110672 or bug 33235. This is a separate issue and one
of the best descriptions I've seen so far, so please don't mark this as a
duplicate. This is specifically about the fact that folders that shouldn't be
special keep getting reset to special and recreated.

I can confirm that this applies to POP folder collections (although IMAP
collections seem to be OK) on both Windows and Linux builds from as early as
the 0.9x days up through 1.2a.

I found bug 103448 which looks like it may be related and has a patch that was
never reviewed and checked in, but I don't know enough to judge for certain if
that would fix this bug too.
Duping to a more general bug. This problem does not only apply to the drafts
folder, but also to other special folders.
