Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20150803030207

Steps to reproduce:

It is visible in default Firefox UI, no need to do any steps to reproduce this issue. Just place some buttons into navbar.

Actual results:

Basically all buttons have different panel offset while it definitely should be unified. There are 3 types of offsets:

1. "Tip" of the panel is touching it's button - Downloads (http://fii.cz/vvksgh), History (http://fii.cz/suhdxnr), Pocket (http://fii.cz/ejmdq)

2. "Tip" of the panel overlaps its button by few pixels - Firefox menu (http://fii.cz/rvpytzw), Talk (http://fii.cz/ptxvvbv)

3. "Tip" of the panel overlaps its button by even more pixels - Bookmarks (http://fii.cz/upvxkhp)

I tried to move two more buttons to navbar (Text Encoding and Developer) which are by default in menu of Firefox and they both have firstd type of offset ("Tip" of the panel is touching it's button).

By following comment 0, I've reproduced the bug on the latest Beta 42.0b5.

Build ID 20151008162217
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
I've managed to reproduce this issue on multiple platforms, but for each one, the behavior was different.

- For Windows 7(both x32 and x64 versions), the tip of the hello and menu panel is above the bottom edge of the specific button, the remaining tool bar panels are below their bottom edge of the specific buttons.

42.0 Windows 7 x32/x64
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

45.0a1 Windows 7 x64
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0
Build ID: 20151122030230

45.0a1 Windows 7 x32
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0
Build ID: 20151120030227

- On MacOS, the drop down panel for each button is displayed above the bottom edge of the button.

45.0a1 OS X 10.10
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0
Build ID: 20151122030230

42.0 OS X 10.10
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

- On Linux, the behavior is the same as on Windows.

42.0 OS X Ubuntu 14.04 x32
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

Since there is a different behavior on each platform, wouldn't be best for user experience to have a standardized one in this case ?

Well I reported this ages ago and it's still in the product throught all versions (release, aurora, nighly) and obviously even on other platforms.

Main problem according to me is not that it is on all platforms, but the fact that panel offset is not unified even when it comes to single version. Like u said tip of the Firefox menu panel overlaps button by few pixels. Panel of bookmarks overlaps button by even more pixels. History and download dont overlap button at all. It is STILL exactly same like it was when I provided screenshots 9 few months ago.
