Platform: Linux, Win32, Mac OS 8.6

To reproduce:
- Launch apprunner
- Mac only: click once in the window to give it focus
- Open the prefs
- Click between different Categories

Result: The list expands and contracts, creating an unplesant throbbing

Expected result: Nothing should throb
these are all problems with bugs in the prefs UI, they go to matt
