At some zoom levels, some vertical strokes of letters n and f outlined as paths are omitted on Firefox 39.0 and 42.0a1 (Nightly).
I didn't experience this on Windows, just Linux (Ubuntu 14.04). Other browsers/image viewers seem to have no problems with this situation.
Did it use to work in the previous versions of Firefox?

I have no idea, just noticed this now. I guess I'd have to set up a VM with an old version to try.

O.K., here's some more info. I tried Firefox in both Unity and LXDE deskotp environments on Ubuntu 14.04 as well as with --safe-mode. I get the faulty behavior there.
I also tried in a Lubuntu 14.04 VirtualBox VM and rendering was as expected for both Firefox 39 and 40. Maybe this has something to do with the graphics card/driver, so here are the respective outputs of lshw -c video:

Anything else I can do to narrow down the problem?
