Mail reader not working, just a white frame

Details
using current cvs tip on linux, selecting a newspost or a mail message (IMAP)
displays just a white frame in 3pane view.
The same happens when double-clicking an email, opening it in a new window.
Mozilla doesn't linger (works for less than a second...)
Haven't got POP accounts set up.
according to stephend it's working just fine on windows 2000.

clobbering my tree fixed it.
