Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0 Iceweasel/38.1.0
Build ID: 20150703062643

Steps to reproduce:

edit text in search widget

Actual results:

search is performed with random search engine

The reason is probably that while editing text I sometimes use arrow keys. While left-right keys can be used for navigating text hitting accidentally up-down (which are very close, did nothing previously, and provide very little visual feedback) changes search engine

Expected results:

search is performed using my selected search engine

Hi Michal,

I wasn't able to reproduce this bug on the latest release(42.0) nor latest Nightly(45.0a1).

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0
Build ID: 20151203053521

I've also tested in your specified version(38.0), but I was unable to reproduce it.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150508094354

When using up and down arrows to navigate inside the search bar, on the bottom of it, different search engines are highlighted, so you know exactly which one you are using(see attachment).

Can you please try to reproduce this on the latest release(42.0) and latest Nightly(45.0a1) and provide the results?

Thanks,
Paul.

Looking closer at the search dropdown the search engines really do get highlighted.

Unfortunately, due to poor GTK theme integration of custom widgets such as this search dropdown the highlight is very hard to see.

Hi Michal,

Are you using a custom theme for Firefox ? On the default theme it's clearly highlighted in my opinion. If you are not using a custom theme, maybe your monitor is not correctly calibrated ?

Thanks,
Paul.

I am using the default theme I think. The default theme uses system (GTK) colors. GTK colors are customizable. The default Firefox theme works poorly with non-default GTK colors. Sometimes it picks colors from the system theme and sometimes it just uses random hardcoded color. Sometimes it picks colors from system theme but picks the wrong ones which are not meant to give decent contrast.

Hi Michal,

Could you please provide more info on what default theme are you using? Is it default Firefox theme or a default OS theme? Also, what color are you customizing? Firefox ones or those on the OS? What are the colors that are causing this issue?

Please try to reproduce this issue on the latest release(42.0) and latest Nightly(45.0a1) and share your results. Also, you can try to test with a new clean Firefox profile and/or safe mode enabled(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).

Thanks,
Paul.
