Since I wrote the long version of the history of the component, I should provide a shorter version of hacking instruction in the repo. Since people may not read mails on mailing list, but they must read the code to hack it.

Like this. Without blank line to keep the sentences in the same paragraph, while keeping the diff nicely pointed to the changed lines.
