Hi Kevin, Patrick, and Aaron-
Do we need to be thinking about updating this page https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tiles/ , linked to from new tab, for the mid-May tiles product launch?
Thx,
Jen
Do we need to update the page further. It states
> Make a site disappear by deleting it from your New Tab page.
;-) I am not to able make a site disappear by this method. See also bug 1150180 comment 43
This method will not even produce similar results to those documented in the support.mozilla (SUMO) kb article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forget-button-quickly-delete-your-browsing-history
I am actually trying to make a genuine request to clarify the wording of the article.
As you will be unlikely to reword this as
> Make a site disappear from a Tile in the new tab page by deleting it.
Maybe someone can suggest a more accurate and easy to localise alternative. Possibly
> Make a site disappear from new tab page with delete.
Incidentally it is difficult to follow what is happening on this subject as related bugs are hidden but I note a discrepancy between the release Notes
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/40.0/releasenotes/
> User can receive suggested tiles in the new tab page based on categories Firefox matches to browsing history (en-US only).
And a Sumo article
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-tiles-new-tab
> Where/what countries are suggested sites being served? ...
> Firefox: English, German, Spanish, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese and Russian.

I do not have language skills, so I am unable to accurately comment on the localisation position but I suspect for both Sumo pages and product pages this is something needing urgent review by those with relevant language skills and access to the relevant Firefox installation.
But for instance the Spanish page shows (https://www.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/tiles/
Más opciones para tu Nueva pestaña)
> Haz que desaparezca un sitio eliminándolo de la página Nueva pestaña
and google translate has that as meainng
> Make rid of a site eliminating the New Tab page.
Possibly the French page is even worse, (https://www.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/tiles/
De nouvelles possibilités pour la page Nouvel onglet) it looks to me as if it has the whole set of suggested tiles|sites information, yet should French even document a feature that is absent in that locale without prominently explaining the feature may not be present.
> Faites disparaître un site en le supprimant de votre page Nouvel onglet.
with google rendering that as
> Dismiss a site by removing it from your New Tab page.
So possibly the wording used in the section is a more accurate description, even if **the feature the article describes is absent in the French Firefox.**

I get an "Access Denied" message, "You are not authorized to access bug 1150180." Could you quote bug 1150180 comment 43, assuming it isn't confidential? I don't know what you mean by "I am not to able make a site disappear by this method.". What method is that?
The page at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tiles/ doesn't really explain how to remove a tile. It just says under 3) "Make a site disappear by deleting it from your New Tab page."
The page has these images, which isn't what I see:
https://mozorg.cdn.mozilla.net/media/img/firefox/tiles/pin-site.3f0dce55552a.png
https://mozorg.cdn.mozilla.net/media/img/firefox/tiles/delete-site.9f7cbbad195a.png
On Windows 7 en-US Firefox 40 if I hover over the "X" in the top *right* corner of a tile, it shows a tooltip, "Remove this site". If I click on the "X" the tile is removed.
The linked SUMO article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page includes a correct tile image and instructions work for me: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page#firefox:win7:fx40
Neither page explains how to restore removed tiles but the "Undo" and "Restore All" options shown after removing a tile also work for me. If I reset browser.newtabpage.blocked in about:config and restart Firefox, that also restores all removed tiles.

The last link should be:

Actually, the SUMO page does have a note under the "Add a Tile from your bookmarks" section,
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page#w_add-a-tile-from-your-bookmarks
that says,
"Note: If you accidentally remove a site you can get it back by clicking Undo at the top of the page. For several removed sites click Restore All."
That note probably belongs under the "Remove a tile" section.
Thanks for the feedback John and Alice!
1. On the first point, about not properly explaining how to remove a tile: the Tiles page - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tiles/ has an image under "Make a site disappear by deleting it from your New Tab page" in which the "X" in the top left corner of the tile is highlighted through the usage of the red color:
https://mozorg.cdn.mozilla.net/media/img/firefox/tiles/delete-site.9f7cbbad195a.png
The purpose of having that image is to give an indication to the user that he needs to use the "X" in order to delete a tile.
The problem I see though with the image we are using in the Tiles page vs the image used in the SUMO article vs the implementation I see in FF40 is that the image in the Tiles page is different than the other two. Aaron, can you please have a look and replace that one with a correct one?
I understand from your feedback that you don't find that image clear enough to represent the necessary action for deleting a tile?
Alice, i can reproduce the steps you're describing on my on Mac OS, FF40, as well: once you hover over "X" in a tile I see a "Remove this site" tooltip that I can use to remove it. To me, this is clear enough to be able to perform this action with no difficulty. John, if you have a different experience, can you please describe?
2. Neither page explains how to restore removed tiles but the "Undo" and
"Restore All" options shown after removing a tile
Although I don't necessarily believe that the Tiles product page should go to such extent to also explain how to undo removing a tile, I think that you are right Alice and the SUMO article should have this note under "How to remove a tile section" rather than "Add a Tile from your bookmarks".
Need info Joni to modify this (thanks a lot!).
3. John, I see no discrepancy between release notes and SUMO article. The article also explains what these categories are (please see Suggested tiles details in the article). If you refer to smth else, please explain. I'm happy to look into it.
4. For the localization part i am adding a need info for Franceso&Michal to have a look, but John, I don't think that Google Translate is the most reliable way to check if our translations are correct.
Thanks again and have a great week-end,
Hermina

Sorry but I don't understand what the question for me actually is.
I expect localizations to reflect the English text, if that's unclear that a whole different story (I personally don't find it confusing). And yes, using Google Translate is not the way to evaluate translations.
CCing one of our French localizers just in case.

French translation for “Make a site disappear by deleting it from your New Tab page.” had the same meaning than in English. I updated it in r144973 to reflect the updated French translation for the tooltip I landed in Fx40 and I slightly reordered the sentence to make sure no one will get it wrong, even if it was already clear enough for me.
I've modified the SUMO page so the "undo" action is in the right spot. Thanks for catching this, John, Alice and Hermina.

+1 to not using Google Translate as a proofreading tool at any point of the l10n process whatsoever, please. :-)
