Not every chipset vendor hosts their own SUPL server since Google provides SUPL server for their Android devices free of charge. Therefore, some of our partners doesn't have any A-GPS solution on FxOS, such as SUPL based AGPS and Extended Ephemeris solution. It would be useful for those partners to have an A-GPS alternative which don't need to use SUPL server.
Mozilla had been worked with Spreadtrum on developing A-GPS alternative for Dolphin project. The experimental feature is called "A-GPS over HTTP". It uses ephemeris injection approach which is similar to Qualcomm's gpsOneXTRA. The #Attachment 8650353 [details] describes the concept of "A-GPS over HTTP". Since Dolphin took SUPL server rental as short/mid term solution, 'A-GPS over HTTP' was treated as low priority task. I'd like to upload the patch of prototype of mozilla side to Bugzilla for future reference.
Closing as we are not working on Firefox OS anymore.
