At this point, Firefox is the only browser that does not roll its own Flash plugin. Even Microsoft has begun making its own Flash plugin since Edge. Normally, having to go to a third party for a Flash plugin would be fine, what with the freedom of choice and all that. But the problem is there is only one option for Flash players in Firefox: Adobe's plugin, which is riddled with security holes and is generally something that needs to be migrated away from. It also has stopped being cross platform, as Adobe has dropped support for Linux since Flash 11. I believe the guys at GNU were working on a Flash player at some point, but as far as I've ever been aware they got as far as Flash 7 support and dropped it. Google's Pepper Flash plugin is also quite nice, however, I'm uncertain if it's open source or not, so you may not be able to convert it to NPAPI. If you can find the source to either one of these, then I believe much of the work would already be done for you. (Forgive me for not classing this as "plugins", I don't appear to have the option.)
