Steps to reproduce:

Running Thunderbird on Ubuntu 15.04. Just updated to 38.x as that was brought into their package repository.

Now when I compose messages, I can typically get no more than a sentence typed before the UI hangs refreshing. The input is still collected, but it won't be displayed until later.
This was likely bug 1196662 which appeared in 38.2.0 and fixed in 38.3.0.
Please reopen the bug if you determine otherwise.
