Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0
Build ID: 20150827193320
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to a web page that uses the embedded JW Player video player.
Actual results:
The embedded player appears as a black box with the text "Error loading player: No playable sources found."
Expected results:
The video should have been loaded into the player.
The web site I am having this issue in particular with is video.pbs.org (a fairly major site, so it would be nice if it worked with Firefox). I have this issue with all videos on the site even in a fresh profile running in Safe Mode. I have the H264 codec installed.
If I use the inspector to inspect the player element to find the URL of the mp4 file and then open that URL directly in Firefox, I am able to play the video, so I am guessing this is some sort of html/javascript issue and not just a configuration issue with my system. If I use a WebKit based browser like Chromium or GNOME Web, the player loads and plays videos without issue. I do not have Flash installed in any form (not in Firefox or the other browsers I tried).
I tried raising this issue as a Mozilla Support post and a JW Player issue first, but I have not gotten any useful feedback from either so far. For reference, the links are:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1079494
http://support.jwplayer.com/customer/en/portal/questions/14262007-embedded-mp4-videos-not-playing-in-firefox-on-linux
I forgot to include:
Some videos on video.pbs.org are only available in the US. According to http://www.pbs.org/about/faq/troubleshoot/watching-online/ , international videos are available from http://video.pbs.org/feature/86/ so hopefully videos at that link can be used for testing.
Also, I tried asking on the Arch Linux forums without success:

What's your Gstreamer version?
Component: Untriaged → Audio/Video: Playback
Flags: needinfo?(wsha.code)
Product: Firefox → Core
My gstreamer version is 1.4.5.
Flags: needinfo?(wsha.code)
The site I cared about (video.pbs.org) has updated from JW Player 6.x to version 7.x which works with Firefox 40, so my problem is solved. There is still some issue with Firefox not working with JW Player 6.x (which is not an issue with Chromium) but hopefully other sites will update to version 7.x as well and this issue will go away.

7 has been out for a couple months now. I can't find anything describing the life cycle of their releases though.
