I just made an edit to put a bandaid on what seems to be a more complicated problem. A twitter user (@codepope) reported that the doc says both "is depreciated" and "is not formally depreciated" (look at the history to see what I mean). I removed the "is not formally depreciated" part so people know not to use it. It really says as much in the "depreciated" header, but wanted to add it for extra clarity.
I've added a sentence in a note indicating that there is no consensus among browser makers wrt this feature. Should be enough.
