120306 - Move of IMAP folder to local mail or vice versa fails or crashes Mozilla

Mozilla Mail exhibits erratic behavior when moving mail folders from the IMAP
mail server to a local folder. Erratic cases:

In one instance I attemped to move a folder containing approx. 15 messages that
had 2 subfolders containing about 10 messages each. Dragging and dropping the
folders on the Local Folders heading resulted in only the superfolder being
displayed, however, after restarting Mozilla (completely), the subfolders appeared.

In a second instance I droped a folder from the IMAP server onto the Local
Folders heading and recieved a message stateing that the folder already existed,
but I am positive that this was the first time I had attempted to move the
folder, and that this was a folder with a unique name. A second attempt to move
the same folder yeilded the same results. Then I moved on to the next folder,
and after it completed its copy, the first folder I was trying to move appeared.
I then had difficulty copying the same folders up to a second IMAP server. I
could drag and drop, but nothing would happen. I was forced to create the
folders manually and move the messages.

The IMAP server I am using is iPlanet Messaging Server 5. I have recieved
similar results in Netscape Mail 4.7x, so it may not be just a Mozilla problem,
but an iPlanet/Mozzila issue.

I am seeing similar issues with Mozilla 1.0 (Win32). I do not get an error or 
crash, but if I try to copy more than a single mail message, it simply does 
nothing. This includes trying to move a folder or selecting multiple messages 
and trying to move or copy them from IMAP to local. Moving a single message 
works, as does moving multiple messages from local to IMAP. If you like, I can 
open a new bug for this.

I have changed platforms to Solaris now, but yes, I do have the same problem
with 1.0. Test case:

Desired Action:
Move Folder with 10+ messages and 2 subfolders containing 10+ messages each from
IMAP mail (iPlanet server) to local mail. 

Procedure:
Left-click on top level folder and drag to "Local Mail".

Expected Results:
Top level folder and subfolders appear in local mail and contain all emails.

Actual Results:
Only the top level folder and it's emails appear in "Local Mail". Dragging the
subfolders down to the top level folders results in a message stating the the
folder already exists. After restarting Mozilla the subfolders appear.

I do not have the resources I need to test my original cases again, but I think
that the case I have just explained is enough to go on.

I am unable to reproduce this problem. I moved one folder
that included 2 other sub folders and all folders had 15 mesgs
in each one. I moved the top level folder from imap to local
folders, with no problems. All 3 folders and mesgs were successfully
copied to my local folders.

There was a bug in trunk, with moving multiple mesgs (bug 150716)
that was fixed on june 13.

Can you try a more recent trunk build please and include user
agent string?

It maybe a server issue but I dont have iPlanet Messaging Server 5.

Tried test case again with Moz 1.1a+. I think this is what you mean by the user
agent string:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020620

Test case this time:

1 Super w/ 43 messages
2 Subs with 11 and 14 messages

Results:
Superfolder copies with all messages, but subfolders do not appear. Dragging
subfolders down to superfolder gives "folder with that name exists" error.
Folders reappear with Mozilla restart.

I wish I had another IMAP server to test my case on, but I don't.

Using linux commercial trunk:
 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020624 

I tried your steps in comment 6
with 2 mesg servers (netscape mesg server 4.15, netscape mesg sever 6)
and i was able to move a folder (48 mesgs) and 2 sub folders
(each had 18 mesgs) and it worked. One time when I tried moving,
the top folder copied but the subfolders didn't contain any mesgs.
I tried 4 more times and it work as expected.

Does this happen everytime? have you tried deleting your folders
under Local Folders and trying to move (drag/drop) your imap folders
to Local folders again?

Is there anything unique about the folders and/or mesgs in those foldes
you are moving to Local Folders?

What trash mode are you in? (mark as deleted, move to trash, remove immediately)
Someone else is reporting a problem (bug 138962) but I can't reproduce
either.
