I thought we agreed on not sending these requests on Friday afternoon, we lose several days every time it happens (Saturday morning here) :-\ (In reply to Jessica from comment #0) > Locales: hu, ro > 180 characters max > Firefox OS is now available in Romania! Can you give the localizers a better idea of how these strings will be used? Moz-awesome is a horrible copy for an international audience, just saying. > -As a non-profit, Mozilla takes Web literacy to a global scale by keeping > our tools free for all. More questions: why is only German targeted? Sadly we're flooding German localizers with requests in the last couple of months, that's not going to last if we keep up with this rate (this is a pretty big chunk of text to localize). Is this part of the donation campaign project, especially considering the following strings? Should this be part of the "Fundraising" program? https://groups.google.com/d/msg/mozilla.dev.l10n.web/vdX5xa6NJ4A/M6xtLAtWEAAJ https://github.com/mozilla/donate.mozilla.org

Desktop: "They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Cast your eyes on these soulful themes." Mobile: "They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Cast your gaze on soulful themes." Any reason not to keep just one of them? One more note: as you noticed we're missing snippets for pt-BR from the last round. Jeff is trying to reach out to them, but the team is not in a good place right now. I also expect the newsletter team to have the same issue. https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/webdashboard/?locale=pt-BR#lang_graph

You have additional time this month. :) No need to localize over the weekend, you have 3 full weekends for our localizers to work on copy. Here are the answers to your questions: > Locales: hu, ro > > 180 characters max > > Firefox OS is now available in Romania! Stay connected, entertained and > > organized with a new smartphone from the champion of the open Web. Get a > > phone today. > > Link: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/2.0/ > > To clarify: you want Hungary to translate a snippet for phone availability > in Romania? **Yes, from what we understand, both Hungarian and Romanian languages are widely used in Romania. Can you give the localizers a better idea of how these strings will be used? Moz-awesome is a horrible copy for an international audience, just saying. > -As a non-profit, Mozilla takes Web literacy to a global scale by keeping > our tools free for all. Meet Bastian Gruber who introduced Berlin artists to > creative coding techniques by using Mozilla’s Thimble tool. Way to be > Moz-awesome, Bastian! **This will be used to showcase how our users have made an impact at Mozilla. They can use a different phrase here instead of Moz-awesome. It should convey "Thank you for being an awesome Mozilla contributor". More questions: why is only German targeted? Sadly we're flooding German localizers with requests in the last couple of months, that's not going to last if we keep up with this rate (this is a pretty big chunk of text to localize). Is this part of the donation campaign project, especially considering the following strings? This is a one-off situation specific to this test, with the goal of determining the most effective copy for the campaign before localizing and finalizing. Thanks so much for your help, Flod! I know the request was large this month. Jessica

The gist is the same for translation purposes. Thanks!
(In reply to Jessica from comment #3) > This will be used to showcase how our users have made an impact at > Mozilla. Let me clarify my question: one of the notes is "try to keep the same length as English". The average inflation for European languages is +20/30%. Which means: if English is 100 characters, German (or French, Italian, etc.) will probably be above 120 characters. Having a clear idea of how strings will be used, and the space actually available, would help. Do you have design specs for this story telling available for sharing?

Do you have design specs for this story telling > available for sharing? We will be using the same template as a normal (below the search bar) snippet with these longer strings. We are able to increase the character count. Let's just tell them that same +20-30% inflation from english will work for these. Thanks! Jess
Closing this old bug. Not sure if relevant, but the Hungarian (the only missing at deadline) was just added.
