switching folder during folder loading doesn't stop the folder loading

I've got a folder "bugmail" with over 13,000 messages.  If I click on it and 
while it is loading, click on a small folder, here's what happens:

the bugmail folder starts loading (I see status text updates), the small folder 
starts loading, finishes loading.  then I continue to see status from the large 
folder.

this has always worked this way in 6.x - I'm pretty sure there's an existing bug
about this but it will be hard to find.

I'm getting an empty message list sometimes when changing folder before the
other one has loaded (uw imap server). Build 20020406, but it has been like this
also before. Maybe it's when the loading folder is empty. It's not very serious,
but it just sometimes happens to me that I intend to click on INBOX but
accidentally select Drafts. Then clicking INBOX leads to the empty message list.
