From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.7) Gecko/20011221
BuildID: 2001122108
I encrypted stored web passwords by checking the box "Use encryption when
storing sensitive data."
When I later uncheck this box and click OK I receive a pop-up error "Unable to
convert stored data."
The data appears to remain encrypted.
This worked as expected on Mozilla 0.9.1 (was able to unencrypt).
My next version of Mozilla was 0.9.5.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. From the Edit menu choose Preferences
2. Click on Privacy and Security to expand the list
3. Click on Web Passwords
4. If the box "Use encryption when storing sensitive data" is not already
checked, check it and click OK. Then follow steps 1-3 again.
5. Uncheck the box "Use encryption when storing sensitive data."
6. Click OK
(note that I had first used Mozilla 0.9.1 to encrypt the passwords, and later
upgraded to Mozilla 0.9.5 and 0.9.7 which can't unencrypt them).
Actual Results: Received pop-up box with error message "Unable to convert
stored data."
Expected Results: No error message and password file unencrypted.
My purpose in unencrypting the passwords is to export them to my laptop.
In Mozilla 0.9.1 I successfully exported my Linux web passwords to my laptop
(Windows 98) by first unencrypting the passwords and then copying the file to
the Windows installation (and renaming the password file appropriately on Windows).
If another mechanism would allow me to share my web passwords with my laptop
then I do not need the unencrypt feature.

blue_sky: this was recently fixed. Set your master password back to whatever it
was originally (if you've tried to remove/change it), then update your Mozilla
build to todays nightlies (or wait 7-8 days for 0.9.8 to be released), and you
should be able to remove the encryption so you can move the data elsewhere.
Thanks for reporting.
