From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:0.9.7+) Gecko/20020117
BuildID: 2002011703

When checking mail, if the pop for any circumstance is unreachable and it is
clear (i.e.: the connection is gone down), in some cases there's no way to stop
the process. Clicking the ESC key does not stops. Also, by clicking on the STOP
button nothing changes. The process stops only when Mozilla returns the error,
after the predefined time,

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Mail
2.Check mail
3.Close connection then try to stop checking mail. In some cases it is impossible

Confirming this bug on win98 machine. I clicked on get message button and while
it is checking I pulled the LAN connection. Found the same results as reported
here. Stop button or escape did not stop the connection. The status bar and
the throbber was active till it timed out.
build: commercial trunk-2002-07-09-08 on win98

I also have this problem in Linux with Mozilla 1.4.
Maybe the pop connection stays open but can't solve the request, so Mozilla Mail
CAN'T STOP! It doesn't even time out! I have waited for hours... To get new
mail, I had to quit Mozilla, closing all browser windows, and restart.
IMO, there would be a way to stop the pop connection.
