It seems that our tab separators have a very short (maybe 0.1s) fade out effect when the mouse moves over a background tab. This creates the weird state where the tab shape and the separators overlap (see attachment).
With the new solid tab separators, this has become much more obvious. It looks like a glitch – I had to take a screen capture to figure out that there was actually animation involved.

Happens in the current Nightly on OS X and Windows 10.

This was deliberately done in bug 1201442, yes.

I suggest a fight to the death between Stephen and Philipp. :-)

Just talked with Stephen. Let's remove the fade (or reduce its duration to 0 – whatever let's us keep the perf gain that we evidently had when introducing it)

r=me assuming this doesn't regress perf. If it does, we should probably investigate using only opacity, even if that does end up being more CSS.

I have reproduced this bug on Nightly 44.0a1 (2015-09-24) on ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 32 bit!

The bug's fix is now verified on Latest Nightly 45.0a1!
