User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:41.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/41.0
Build ID: 20150917150946
Steps to reproduce:
Click on subfolder in bookmarks toolbar
Actual results:
Icon is "activated" but the bookmark list does not render - only its drop shadow appears.
Although the menu does not render, the bookmark information appears in the status bar as usual when you move the mouse pointer down, and the bookmarks can be selected.
Moving the mouse to other subfolder icons in the bookmarks menu and back will eventually result in the subfolder rendering correctly.
Expected results:
Bookmark subfolder should be displayed.

Please type about:support into the location bar, then press Enter. Copy the entire Graphics section to the clipboard, then paste it in a reply here.
Can you reproduce the issue in a brand new profile?

I will try a new profile & report back. In the meantime, as requested, graphics section of about:support:

Created brand new profile, selected "show bookmarks toolbar", created 1 bookmark folder, added 2 bookmarks (news.bbc.co.uk and Firefox getting started page) and problem manifested. Right-click options and mouseover descriptions of each bookmark still working - screenshots to follow any sec now.

Problem showing in a new clean profile - mouseover text for bookmark shown
Problem showing in a new clean profile - right-click on "invisible" bookmark to get actions, can edit/delete as usual.

Attachment description: ff_bookmark_bug_newprof.png → New profile - single BM folder, still fails
Thanks for those screenshots. Can you please update your graphics driver to the latest version and see if this still reproduces in a new profile? If so, can you try disabling hardware acceleration and retesting?
Thanks
Windows says my drivers are up-to-date (Driver date 05/02/2015, version 9.18.13.4752).
I don't have a specific option to disable hardware acceleration, I've checked the Windows device manager, Nvidia control panel, display settings, etc.
I can adjust various parameters in Nvidia control panel (Antialiasing, texture filtering, threaded optimisation, triple buffering, etc.) - would setting everything to "off" / "minimum" be worth a try?

No, they're grossly outdated. The latest version is currently dated 2015-09-22.

> I don't have a specific option to disable hardware acceleration
1. In Firefox, click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Options.
2. On the left, click Advanced.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Uncheck “Use hardware acceleration…”
5. Right-click the Firefox taskbar icon and choose either Close Window or Close All Windows.
6. Start Firefox again and check if the problem still occurs.

Apologies on both counts there - I should know better than to believe Windows!
The fault disappears with hardware acceleration turned off so that's that one covered.
Due to the machine being in-use for testing I can't update the graphics drivers at the moment. Happy to write this one off as likely the driver's fault.

Thanks John.
Milan, since disabling HWA seems to fix this for John's non-current graphics driver I'm wondering if we should blocklist?

Comment 2 already shows unaccelerated profile, it is curious that turning off hardware acceleration fixes the problem at that point.

Could you send another about:support graphics section from a clean profile?

Apologies for delay - work has been in the way and firefox's auto-update has put me on version 44.0 which certainly seems to have resolved the issue.
