Hey Liz,

I was wondering. Do we want to continue buying these domains? I'm not sure we actually need the domain "firefoz.de" ? and similar ones? I wonder if we have a policy since we have to spend $30 every year to renew them. 

Note: I'm still doing these ones, I just wondered for a wider discussion if we should be using/buying these domains?

Hi Ryan,

We didn't purchase these, we had the current owner transfer them to us because we were concerned that his websites could confuse users into thinking they were official Mozilla sites. I think we should hold onto them for at least awhile. We should develop a process for evaluating all the domain names we hold on a periodic basis to determine which should be dropped. Shyam, Jen Bertsch and I have begun talking about domain name strategy recently and that would be a good piece of the puzzle to include.

Hi Ryan - Our outside counsel said these domains weren't pointing to mozilla.org, so I checked them a few times each and sometimes some of them seem to point to https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/ (rather than https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/new/) and sometimes I got a server not found error. Could you please double check that all of these were moved to MarkMonitor name servers and point to https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/new/? Thanks.

OK. I'll double check these. 

IT is currently in a change freeze, I will have to wait until Thursday (after the freeze is complete) then I'll fix these.

Ok, took me a while but I got them all double checked. The following domains:
firefox-download.de www.firefox-download.de firefoz.de www.firefoz.de getfirefox.de www.getfirefox.de getfirefox.at www.getfirefox.at firefox-hacks.de www.firefox-hacks.de

Point to:
https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/new/

You were correct, firefox-hacks.de was not setup in mark monitor. 

I THINK I got them all this time. Do you want to double check?

Hi Ryan - Thanks for working on this. It looks like the www versions are pointing to the German page, but some of the non-www versions are pointing to the en-GB page. I checked the 3 that are opening the en-GB page in a private browsing window in case the apparent pointing to that page was because I'd visited the page before, but it wasn't. Can you fix the three that point to the en-GB page? Thanks.

Hey :liz. It actually is because you have visted the pages before. Even in ingonito mode Firefox will still cache the old redirect (for quite a long time). (because I used the permanent redirect)

Same thing for me. But if I use Chrome the "correct" URL's load.
