Using build ID 2002011803 on windows 2000 SP2
Is reproducable but can take a lot of attempts before it happens.

With mail configured with a directory server
1. Start mail
2. Open compose window
3. Start typing in surname of someone you know exists on directory server

Expected result
List of people from directory server matching letters typed

Actual result
Sometimes expected result, sometimes nothing from directory server at all

Workaround
Close compose window and open a new one.
Reporter did you take a look at
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17880 to find a dup ?
I did check and didn't spot anything which it obviously duped

I will do some testing on the very latested build but I know with build ID
2002030103 it was still happening.
Using BuildID 2002040210 on WinXP it is still happening so I'm repopening

Just tested again using BuildID 2002071208 on WinXP and tried to forward an
email (with attachment) as an attachment and auto-complete is not working.
Workaround is to click on address and use that interface.

For some reason this bug is becoming more reproducable, in fact recently almost
100% of the time. Bug 126022 does partially obscure this bug, in that the
address you might want may have made it into the collected addresses addressbook.
Updating summary, orginal summary was "Autocomplete from LDAP in compose window
doesn't always work"
Adding 4xp because it does work in NS 4.x
Adding nsenterprise because this helps deployment in large organisations
Adding regression because it did use to work to a limited extent.
Workaround is detailed in comment 7 but is not ideal or convenient.

Summary: Autocomplete from LDAP in compose window doesn't always work → Autocomplete in compose window does not use LDAP address books
Hmmm, I'm sure I'd just changed this to composition not address book, doing it
for real this time.

A couple obserations on this bug, running Mozilla on Windows 2000:

1) The LDAP lookup worked quite reliably for me in Moz 1.01. In 1.2.1 I'd say it
doesn't work about 90% of the time if Mozilla is configured to access the
directory server over SSL. But without SSL I'm finding it still works pretty
well in 1.2.1.

2) I've noticed that when the LDAP lookup doesn't work, the
auto-append-your-domain thing doesn't either. I mean, normallly if I type "jack"
and jack's not in my directory, Moz will append "@mydomain" to the end. When the
LDAP lookup isn't working, this domain autocompletion doesn't either, and you
have to type the whole address in.

3) Contrary to the workaround in comment 7, in my experience when the LDAP
lookup isn't working in the compose window it also won't from the address window.
