I'm on Nightly and I had an update notification. Without applying it, I quit Firefox and restarted my computer. After restart, I launched Firefox and was presented with a single tab showing the start screen. All my pinned tabs (about 10 of them) were gone. 

After just about having a heart attack over non-bookmarked pages being lost forever, a co-worker helped me recover them from the 'recently closed' menu. Which I had missed the several times I went in there looking for them in my panic state.

Did this problem ever happen again?

Hi,
I had this problem every time I have multiple windows.
If I close the windows in the wrong order or if I shutdown the computer with multiple Firefox windows opened, I loose my pin tabs and have to recover them manually.
So yes, this problem is still there and easy to reproduce.

  • Open 2 windows
  • Pin tabs in the first one then close it
  • Close the second window
  • Reopen Firefox => no pin tabs

I believe this is yet-another duplicate of bug #587400?
