1) setup() 2) Select "Always Show Notifications" from the notifications doorhanger. 3) Click "pop Notification" button 10 times. 4) Verify the notification only appears once (and says "9 new notifications"). [Fail Each click produced a notification and there was no messaging related to the # of new notifications] 5) Verify there are 11 notifications in the OSX notifications tray. [Fail - this information did not display] Expectation: The same message would display once and then indicate the number of related/same message that are waiting.

Further investigations were performed on different OS'es for this issue and the next behaviors were observed: - On all Windows versions (from XP to 10), each click on "pop Notification" button opens a separate notification. - On all Ubuntu versions (from 12 to 14), each click on "pop Notification" button opens a separate notification. - On Mac OS versions (from 10.6 to 10.8), each click on "pop Notification" button opens a separate notification. - On Mac OS versions (from 10.9 to 10.11), the notifications are stacked but the counter is not displayed after the second notification is created. The counter appears only after 15-20 notifications are stacked and the number of notifications displayed is wrong.

:michelle can you create a screen shot of the "9 new notifications". On Mac Firefox used the Mac OS control center, the user can control the display either 'banner' or 'alert'. Firefox has no control over UI in the control center or stacking behavior :ryanvm - what's the criteria for a blocker?

@Edwin, Pardon the delay in answering this; Yes, I will send .png file via email. Note: Functionality is appropriate on OS X, the Windows and Ubuntu still display the issue.

Severity: normal → blocker
QE has nominated this as a blocker for FF44, tracked. I hope we can get a fix ready for uplift soon, I'd be happy to take it.

Michelle, "collapsing or grouping" of multiple notifications from a domain is controlled by the website themselves. The site would have to write that logic in the service worker and replace a notification by using the same 'tag' property. Currently, Firefox does not provide a system for collapsing multiple messages on behalf of websites. I do not believe this is a blocker and should be marked invalid.

I agree with Edwin, the coalescing of multiple notifications into one isn't something that is in scope for any upcoming versions.

QA Acknowledgement and Agreement - Collapse and control multiple message 1) FF not responsible for this functionality 2) Feature change to allow control is not in scope
