122135 - Some scrolled web page displays corrupted after Back or Forward button

See also bug 119375 and bug 88868.  Test done on Windows 98 2nd ed., build
2002012705.

Web pages that are initially shown correctly and are scrolled down have the
wrong background color and have broken nearly horizontal lines (descending
slowly from left to right) on top of the display after returning to them with
the Back or Forward button.  The area of the display that is bad appears to be
the same size as the amount the user scrolled down before looking at another
page and then going Back.  This also occurs with the Forward button.

In the preferences, I have the web page colors set to a wheat foreground and
black background and have selected the radio button "Use my chosen colors,
ignoring the colors specified".

To recreate the screen shot:
1.  Go to www.plycon.com
2.  Scroll down a little (until the Plycon logo at top is off screen)
3.  click on "Chipset coolers" (any link will do, that one is just the first one)
4.  Click the Back button.

Not sure if it's relevant, but what video card/chipset do you have, with what
driver? I have an ATI Rage Mobility-P AGP, driver 4.00.1381.3054, build
M6.10.135-T01.

I have a Diamond Viper V550 with 16M, RIVA TNT chipset.  The driver files off
the CD that came with the video card never worked.  Updated Windows 98 driver is
from the file v550_w9x_368.exe from the Diamond website, which was released for
DirectX 7.  Currently have DirectX 8.1 installed.  This problem also occurs in
0.9.7 (build 2001122106) under Windows 98.  Everquest is the only other program
with graphics problems-- parts of the display (background pic while EQ is
loading, for instance) are whited out.  Adobe Photoshop 4.0 and AutoCAD 14 work
fine.  Does Mozilla use obscure and/or demanding portions of DirectX or video
driver routines-- something not used in Photoshop or Autocad?  Could a plug-in
(ShockwaveFlash or Java 1.4beta3?) cause this?  I hear no sound and get no
message about needing shockwave.  IE has no problem with that webpage.

Under Windows 2000 on same computer, with NVidia drivers from the file
Win2K-XP_23.11.exe, 0.9.7 has no problem.  No problem with 0.9.7 under Linux.
In both, I get a pop-up telling me I need ShockwaveFlash.

Seems under Windows 98, Mozilla detects and uses a Shockwave plug-in from an
old installation of Netscape 4.5.  So why doesn't this happen under Windows
2000?  The system is dual boot; the Netscape 4.5 files are present under W2K.

I guess I need to purge Shockwave Flash somehow.  Another troublesome site is
http://www.cityoflewisville.com .  Mozilla 0.9.7 loads most of the page, then
bounces back to the last page I viewed.  When I tried looking with IE 5.0 I got
a crash:
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module SWFLASH.OCX at 0167:02b4d7a1.

This problem is caused by the Flash plug-in.  Mozilla 0.9.8 (build 2002020406)
under Windows 98 and Windows 2000 with Flash version 4 or 5 does not correctly
display http://www.plycon.com and many other sites with Flash.  In Windows 2000,
only the background color in is wrong-- black instead of the system color
(Mozilla preferences set to "Use system colors" and "Use my chosen colors,
ignoring the colors specified").  In Windows 98, the display is corrupted.  In
both cases, the affected area is equal to the amount the user scrolled down. 
Without the plug-in installed, the display is correct.  The plug-in is a single
file in the plugins directory: NPSWF32.DLL  319488 bytes.

The plug-ins triage team (av, beppe, peterl, serge and shrir) have reviewed this
issue and have made the following determination:

Tested the above mentioned website, the page loads correctly. We suspect the
newer version of Flash (Shockwave Flash 6.0 r29) has resolved this problem.

Reporter: marking as wfm, please reopen if you can reproduce this error using a
current version of the browser and flash.

I was unable to test this.  Got the version of Flash that the plugin link
directed me to.  The file is flashplayer6installer.exe, 525252 bytes.  I am
running Windows 2000, service pack 2, DirectX 8.1 on a different computer now
(P4 1.7GHz, 512M RAM, GEForce 2 based video card w/ 32M) and build 2002061104
with Java 1.4.0_01.  After going thru the screens and manually directing it to
my Mozilla installation since it fails to find Mozilla automatically (plugins
are in d:\internet\mozilla\bin\plugins), the installer reports success but
nothing has changed.  I see no new files in the plugins directory.  If I choose
another directory, it says it cannot detect a browser and asks if it should
install the file(s) anyway.  When I say "yes", no files are installed.

I suppose this is a Macromedia problem, not a Mozilla problem.
