List Name: mozilla.dev.fxos.sync List Admin: ferjmoreno@gmail.com, mbdejong@mozilla.com, Short Description: Firefox OS Data Sync Long Description: Discussion about how the data on a Firefox OS device can be kept in sync with the data on a user's account on an online storage server (whether Mozilla-hosted, self-hosted, or hosted by a third-party), as well as peer-to-peer sync with a web app running on another device. The purpose of adding data sync to Gaia apps might include easy import/export of data sets (addressbook, calendar, photo albums, etc.) owned by the user, task continuity, backup/restore, administering your device from a website, sharing media with others, etc. Justification / Special Instructions:
I think if you call this group ".sync", it'll get confused with Firefox's built-in Sync feature, and discussion of that. How can we avoid that? Expand to ".synchronization"? Find another word? Gerv
Firefox Sync is also part of the work done by this group :) We recently added Firefox Sync to FxOS. But you are right that maybe we should find a more descriptive name. Maybe "mozilla.dev.fxos.cloud" and rename the group as "Firefox OS in the Cloud". Preeti, what do you think?

How about mozilla.dev.fxos.data-sync, would that work?
I'd say so, but others should weigh in. Gerv
I'm fine with mozilla.dev.fxos.data-sync, but I'd prefer mozilla.dev.fxos.sync for simplicity (avoid -).
Let me know when you are all agreed :-) Gerv
sorry I took so long to comment. can we please keep it to fxos sync or fxos cloud please? it'd be great to keep it generic & simple like Fernando says. thanks!!

OK, I would vote against "fxos cloud", so let's stick to mozilla.dev.fxos.sync then, as originally proposed, and as both Fernando and Preeti prefer over "data-sync". Avoiding the hyphen and keeping the name short and simple is a good point. As for confusion with the Sync that's built into Firefox Desktop, IMHO, the "fxos" part in there makes it clear that this is not about Firefox Desktop, and the Long Description states clearly enough that we aim to sync all data of the OS (addressbook, etc.), not just the browser-related data collections. It's also a nice match with our existing #fxos-sync IRC channel name! :)
