syncshadowdb dump files can be big, and installations may not have space for them. syncshadowdb could reduce their size significantly by compressing them with, say, gzip. b.m.o. recently had a space problem, and I hacked syncshadowdb to do compression to save space. I will revert to not using compression sometime this week once I make sure we have enough space again, and note that compression significantly reduces performance (syncall takes almost twice as long on b.m.o. with it turned on), so I'm ambivalent about this enhancement. Nevertheless, in the interests of not losing code and making things available to people who could use it, I am at least adding it to Bugzilla.
