User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Build ID: 20151029151421 Steps to reproduce: So play a Youtube video like normal. When you go to Maximise to video (Half Screen) To fix this issue you have to re-load the web-page and do it again and then it will maximise as it should. Actual results: The box around the video stayed the same size Expected results: The box should open up so that the video is half screen size.

Seems like a layout (or Youtube) issue. Passing on for further triage.

Hi Danny, does this still reproduce for you? If so, can you upload a screenshot? Thanks!

(In reply to Mike Taylor [:miketaylr] from comment #2) > Hi Danny, does this still reproduce for you? If so, can you upload a > screenshot? Thanks! I have attached the screenshot as you requested. Ignore the video no reflection on me just what I found, as you can see I have requested the video half screen but even though I have clicked the button nothing has happened.
Danny, are you using... - the "fullscreen" button (rightmost button at bottom of the video) ...or: - the "Theater mode" button (2nd-to-right button at bottom of the video) I'm not clear from comment 0 which one, because you mention both "maximise" (which sounds like fullscreen) and "half screen" (which I think sounds like Theater mode but I'm not sure)

I am on about the theatre mode button the full screen button works fine.
Thanks! I believe I've just hit this bug as well. --> Promoting it from unconfirmed. Sample video (from the screenshot), for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDD19jK6_hg

Summary: YouTube Maximizing Video → YouTube "theater mode" button doesn't resize the video, the first time you click it
Here's a screencast of me reproducing the bug. I click the theater mode button right away when video loads, and you can see the size of its little rectangle changes, but the video doesn't change size (until I click it a few more times later). This seems likely to be a race condition of some sort in YouTube's code, where theater mode fails if the sidebar content isn't ready yet or something.

Perfect, thanks Daniel!

I hit the same bug in Chrome, actually, as shown in this screencast. Again, I hit the "theater mode" button ASAP here (during an ad), and the button changes state, but the video doesn't resize (until I hit it a few more times later on).
(err, thanks Daniel *and* Danny)
I guess this belongs in "Tech Evangelism", since it's a YouTube bug. (The fact that it reproduces in Chrome indicates that it's not a Mozilla/Firefox-dependent bug.) --> Reclassifying.

I'm not sure it's a bug it looks like more lazy loading of resources. What I see is that the video is starting right away BUT the page has not finished loading. For example some of the things are still coming into the right bar. If I wait the network activity to be stabilized, and I click on Theater mode this is working. https://s.ytimg.com/yts/jsbin/player-en_US-vflbQww0A/base.js I have the feeling that the page is ready once Ads have been loaded. We could tell YouTube about it by courtesy.
Contacted YouTube about it today.

A bug was already opened at YouTube, but they will try to give it a bit more attention. Thanks everyone.

Karl, are you able to still reproduce?
Flags: needinfo?(kdubost)
I'm not able to reproduce now, FWIW. Now, my first few early clicks on the theater-mode-button have *no effect* (i.e. the button is inactive, though you can't tell) The button's icon only changes for clicks that do actually trigger the video to resize. So I suspect this is fixed now.
Cool, let's close then. Thanks Daniel!
