@reporter, please
a) send such a mail from hotmail-account to my e-mail-address (with reference
to this Bug)
b) tell your OS
c) leave detailed information of sender and recipient e-mail-account
d) do you think it's a sending or receivinb problem?
e) what is the result if oyu send e-mail to a web-mail-account like web.de?
f) with what e-mail client have the mails been sent?
Flags: needinfo?(wmwalch)
Hi Rainer,
the problem is that mail comes from our business software "ibcos". It uses a hotmail address to send statments and invoices to customers. According to them the email "leave" their premises with attachments...
Signing into webmail brings the same result.
Operating system I am working on is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

> ... the email "leave" their premises with attachments...
That's easy to claim ....
I know machines what send multipart messages (e-mails for alarms) without attachment, but with mistakes in the mail header. The typical effect, at least for IMAP-Accounts, is that the Messages are shown as "with attachment" until you try to download and/or it.
I think it's obvious that we can't handle a report "I see something I can't understand, let's assume it's a SeaMonkey problem, but I will not give you a chance to find out ..." ;-)
Please answer to my questions a, c-f and send a 0 € invoice to me so that I can test that effect.

OS: Unspecified → Windows 7
a) send such a mail from hotmail-account to my e-mail-address (with reference
to this Bug)
done
b) tell your OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
c) leave detailed information of sender and recipient e-mail-account
ibcos is using sheridanmachinery@hotmail.com to send invoices/statements to our customers. sheridanmachinery@hotmail.com is on copy when mails are sent
d) do you think it's a sending or receivinb problem?
hard to tell. you think attachment is there (paper clip icon) and then it disappears...
e) what is the result if oyu send e-mail to a web-mail-account like web.de?
If I sent mails via seamonkey there is no problem
f) with what e-mail client have the mails been sent?
I hope to find out...

(In reply to maxwalshe from comment #5)
a): great!
Everything works fine for me with SeaMonkey German 2.39 final
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0 from official download area)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Build 20151103191810 (Classic Theme)
on German WIN7 64bit
My account settings (e-mail-provider all-inkl):
POP mail server port 995, SSL/TLS, normal password
c): My main interest is concerning the preferences you find at SM-e-mail menu
'Edit → Mail & Newsgroup Account ... → <your account>', mainly encryption,
POP or IMAP, everything what is not confidential
d): Can you please be more precise like
.
.
3. Launch e-Mail client
» unread e-mail appears in Thread pane, paper clip shown for
"attachment available"
4. Click on e-mail in Thread Pane
» Message body appears in Message Pane
Bug: paperclip from step 3 disappears, attachment filename for a second
shown in Attachments-pane, then disappears; no attachment can be
opened, Message Source does not show any
"Content-Type: application/pdf; name="Invoice.pdf" and further
typical binary contents
Such a description is much more useful than "attachment disappears" (= runs through the door...?) ;-)
f): this is not urgent currently
@reporter:
If you SM e-mail client uses an IMAP account, please send an additional invoice to the e-mail-address what I will tell you by private e-mail.
Summary: Attachment from hotmail account disappears → Attachment from hotmail account (used by ibcos software) disappears when e-mail opened with SeaMonkey
c): My main interest is concerning the preferences you find at SM-e-mail menu
'Edit → Mail & Newsgroup Account ... → <your account>', mainly encryption,
POP or IMAP, everything what is not confidential
imap-mail.outlook.com; port 993
SSL/normal password
No encryption or digital signing selected.
Hope that helps
d): will do - yours is good enough ;-)

Also second "Invoice 1224578" worked fine with SeaMonkey German 2.39 final
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0 from official download area)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Build 20151103191810 (Classic Theme)
on German WIN7 64bit
My account settings (e-mail-provider all-inkl):
IMAP mail server port 993, SSL/TLS, normal password
@reporter:
d): The PDF ("Statement...pdf") really is visible for a short moment at the
right end of the grey header area and then vanishes?
Last attemp: Can you please save such a defective email as .eml and attach here (or send to me zipped by personal mail) for further examination?
Hello Rainer,
I sent you a PM containing the mail and a video how the attachment just vanishes. Hope that helps.
Also update from ibcos:
"Morning Wolfgang
The SMTP details that we use on your Gold server are that of a Zen Internet mail server.
We use these settings for customers who do not have either their own mail server, or a third party account which has its own mail server e.g. Godaddy."

Without new conclusive indication that SeaMonkey is involved I am tending to close this one INVALID.
@reporter:
I already told your that the vanishing paperclip-icon is a typical effect for text-only-multipart-messages received with IMAP account. That has nothing to do with really loosing attachments.
Currently the most plausible reason for your problem is that you simply get messages without attachment. Something remarkable I see in the source code of your .eml "2015-11-18 10:24 CET, maxwalshe" is the overabundant mail header (compared to the mail I received from you with suspicious antivirus entry and so on.
You should discuss that with your e-mail-service-provider, ibcos, Hotmail and so on. With a Web Interface you should be able to view the e-mails on the Server of your e-mail-provider.
Of course you also can ask at the SeaMonkey support forum <http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=40&sid=880013391f7a7ad41c6944df9b0b4037>, but I think that would be wasted time.

Attachment #8688867 -
Attachment description: mail containing an attachment which then vanishes saved as *.eml → mail that reproduced the vanishing paperclip effect, without attachment (*.eml)

Never confirmed by a second user, no evidence that complained e-mails really were sent with attachment, no response, so I close this one for now.
@Reporter: Please feel free to reopen this Bug when you can contribute required information and if you can contribute a step by step instruction due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines> (containing every key press and every mouse click) how to reproduce the problem reliably.
