User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0 Iceweasel/38.4.0
Build ID: 20151103235259

Steps to reproduce:

Open thunderbird in safe mode or not in safe mode

Actual results:

6.5+GB memory leak at lunch (even in safe mode), within 30 seconds. Tons of error codes(w/ exquilla / normal mode active) and when / if Thundebird finally loads, no "inbox" access to GMAIL or Exquilla / Office 365 account (safe mode works for gmail). Folder list doesn't work on the left pain(normal mode). It's completely blank with ZERO entries listed. Email still comes in and when the status box show it you can get to the inbox from there. Clicking VIEW > GO > [account] < [folder] doesnt work.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should've opened without a huge memory leak or system slow down (precessor isn't the issue) and mail shoud've been accessible on all accounts

You need to test this with just ExQuilla, and just the EWS Calendar Provider. They are different addons.
The memory leak happens even in safe mode (no add-ons, including ExQuilla or EWS). The kernel goes to a super slow down (mouse input is even lagged) while the memory shoots up past 6GB then eventually falls. THunderbird takes 2-3 minutes to open.

I will gladly disable EWS and run ExQuilla stand alone. Stay tuned
If this happens in safe mode, then the addon are not an issue.

See bug 1219334 which may be a similar issue.
One symptom of the calendar problem of version 38.3.0 is what you describe in comment 0 "Folder list doesn't work on the left pain(normal mode). It's completely blank with ZERO entries listed. Email still comes in and when the status box show it you can get to the inbox from there. Clicking VIEW > GO > [account] < [folder] doesnt work."

1. What happens if you *remove* the calendar addon from Thunderbird, remove the Thunderbird program directory, and reinstall Thunderbird from http://getthunderbird.com/ with calendar disabled?
2. If that does not help please create a diagnostic setting at preferences | advanced | general | config editor, find mailnews.database.dbcache.logging.console and set the string to 'debug'. In appmenu | tools | error console does the diagnostic show "open db count" stay sustained above 30?

Other possibility - high memory is sometimes caused by bad .msf files.

(fwiw bug 1219334 comment 10 suggests it is not a recent regression.)

Scott, do you have many virtual folders, or a virtual folder that accesses over 50 folders?

We really need Scott's involvement to make progress. So for now, this is incomplete

You might check the size of panacea.dat in your thunderbird profile
I am sorry for my lack of response. I eventually moved to icedove as it's updated at a faster rate by Debian specific people. Icedove doesn't struggle with the add on and the memory leak is more contained.

Thanks for the update Scott. Can you describe this in more detail please?
Also, do you have many virtual folders, or any virtual folders that accesses over 50 folders?

However, bug 1219334 isn't on linux.

It would be great to pursue this, but it requires Scott's participation and he doesn't seem to have interest.
