We want to ship Firefox with a good list of search engines for Guarani.

We'll do this in three phases: First, the localization team and flod (Francesco Lodolo) will look at the market for the language and come up with a good set of search providers. Huber, we'll need your input on this. The guidelines for making recommendations are found on <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Productization_guide>.

We currently use this set for en-US, to which we can fall back in the case of lacking localized alternatives:
Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Amazon, eBay, Twitter, Wikipedia

After we decided on a particular search engine, flod will contact the owner and ask for permission and for specifics, like proper search flags. Huber, we'll likely need your help to at least get the owner's contact information.

Once we have a specification on what the search engines for Guarani should look like, flod and the localization team will work on an implementation on that. flod will create and attach patches for the desired changes and get them reviewed. After a successful review, flod will land them. Huber, if you're interested, you could create the patches, too. You'd ask flod for review on those before landing.

Please don't commit any modifications in browser/searchplugins to the hg repository without a patch reviewed by flod, Stas, Axel or someone else appointed by flod. The data here is sensitive to users and our search partners, thus requiring extra care here.

The Guarani team and flod will be driving this bug to completion.

Hi people!
Here in Paraguay are Google and Wikipedia frequently used. I recommend the inclusion of both Wikipedias: in Guarani and in Spanish: https://gn.wikipedia.org/ and https://es.wikipedia.org/
Google used to have a Guarani version, but it doesn't work anymore.
Hi Huber, we usually try not to over-populate the list of searchplugins. Also, with the current search UI, is a bit difficult to distinguish between two Wikipedias (same icon, only different tooltip). Would it be a problem to only use one of the versions (gn)?

As for the other searchplugins: Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Amazon, eBay, Twitter.

Is Amazon popular in the area? Should we use amazon.com or drop it?
What about eBay and Yahoo? Which version should we use?

Are https://es.yahoo.com/ and https://es.yahoo.com/ good choices for Guarani?

Flagging Huber so that he's sure we're asking him for more info.

The accept-lang header would redirect to Spanish in wikipedia if a Guaraní version of the article isn't available, right? I would recommend using the Guaraní wikipedia.

Hi people! There is not problem with using only one version of wikipedia. You can also add the default search plugins for Firefox like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Amazon and Twitter. The use of Amazon is growing nowadays in Paraguay. I recommend all versions in Spanish.

Isn't amazon.es targeted to Spain more than Spanish users?

For example: if you want to buy something and get it shipped to you, would you visit amazon.com or amazon.es? I would expect the second to be a lot more expensive in terms of shipping costs. Probably the same with eBay.es

Obviously no problem in using yahoo.es in that sense.
Hi Francesco! For us in Latinamerica it is cheaper to buy from amazon.com. Actually most people buy from de USA.
Let's see if we agree on the list

amazondotcom
bing
eBay
google
twitter
wikipedia (gn version)
yahoo (yahoo.es)

Based on comment 6, I would keep the en-US versions of Amazon and eBay: does it sound good, or do you prefer amazon.es+ebay.es anyway?

And before I forget, I will need the translation in Guarani of 'Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia'.

I think it is ok the way you did. Amazon and eBay from the USA

I'm still missing the translation for 'Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia'.

It should be "Opaite tembikuaa hekosãsóva renda", but I need to be sure before proceeding.

Correction: 'Vikipetã, opaite tembikuaa hekosãsóva renda'.
They way you have the translation is right.
