Rainer we updated the shell code for Windows and Linux recently. Is this still a problem in 2.53?
Windows 10 makes it hard to impossible to set a non Microsoft browser as default but this woks here too if I manually use The Windows settings to associate the file extensions as set SeaMonkey as default.

The problem persists with ‘Sent to mail recipient’ from File Explorer and with MAILTO protocol in indows 10 x64

Uninstall SeaMonkey. Make sure you have only the x64 version installed. x86 and x64 can not co exist. Reboot and reinstall SeaMonkey. Check in Preferences -> Mail & Newsgroups that SeaMonkey is set as the the default application. In Windows -> Default Apps make sure that SeaMonkey is the default application for Email. Check that it is in "set defaults per app" too. Should work then. If not install the VS2019 runtime as mentioned in the release notes. Should only be needed for Windows 7 but might help here too.

After a few updates to the latest 2.53 versions I don't see this problem anymore.
Remaining issues are with Windows 10 making it hard to set a third party application as a default but this is nothing we can fix and can be done in the appropirate Windows settings dialogs. In Windows tested up to 20H2 and working.

Microsoft Office Word 2007 under Windows 10 menu Send → Email does not see SM at all, though SM mail composer is set to default client, and other applications, such as SumatraPDF or Ashampoo PDF, recognize it.
