Still unclear: --------------- b) FF 47.0a1 (2016-01-29) also has "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled=true" by default. CORE bug? or completely different bug?: c) But may be the best solution would be a "no longer block this site"- button instead of disabling the complete blocking?

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 SeaMonkey/2.40 Build ID: 20151111101555 Steps to reproduce: Clicked the preference button, expecting there to be some preference for it. Actual results: There was no preference, making the preferences button pointless. Expected results: There should have been a preference that the preferences button is referring to.
(I don't plan on disabling it, but this could cause confusion for those who do)

If we are talking about the bar between TABs and page contents: NOT reproducible with German SeaMonkey 2.41a1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:44.0 from akalla download area) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/ 44.0 Build 20150926114543, (Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit NOT reproducible with SeaMonkey German 2.39 final Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:42.0 from official download area) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Build 20151103191810 (Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit NOT reproducible with English SeaMonkey 2.42a1 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0 Build 20151103003001 (Classic Theme) on VirtualBox Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (no warning appears, probably different bug.) @Reporter: Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you still can reproduce the problem with a current SeaMonkey version and a current OS and if you can contribute a step by step instruction due to <https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines> (containing every key press and every mouse click) how to reproduce the problem reliably.

I don't see a Preferences button on a toolbar or in the button reserve. AFAICT, the "Edit → Preferences" menuitem opens the Preferences dialog. Some add-ons have their own Preferences. These are of three kinds: - "out-of-line" preferences, where clicking [Preferences] pops up a dialog; - "inline" preferences, which are in the details pane of about:addons for that particular add-on; - "hidden" preferences, which ought not to have a [Preferences] button but erroneously do: this is bug 1224921. If this bug refers to one or more specific add-on(s), then it is most likely a duplicate of bug 1224921; but comment #0 is so imprecise that it is hard to tell _if_ this bug is about an add-on's prefs, even more so _which_ one.
The bar that shows up in private browsing mode to alert you that tracking is blocked.

There is no interface in the dialog that pops up to change the setting. (there should be an option here to toggle "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled" on and off according to the bar, but there is none)
(using 2.43a1 nightly on Win8.1U1, latest build available)

That bar has the same string, but it is for non-private-browsing mode, and has the option to block/unblock. The private browsing one shares the same string (which is fine), and has no block/unblock (which is expected in this instance), and has a preferences button, and yet there is no preference to toggle "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled" in where it leads you to. Thus, this bug.
Summary: The tracking blocked notification has a preferences button, but there is no preference for it. → The tracking blocked notification in private browsing mode has a preferences button, but there is no preference for it.

To be(In reply to rexyrexy2 from comment #8) To be honest, I still haven't a clue what your problem might be.

(In reply to rexyrexy2 from comment #8) May be this is the Problem: 1. Launch Browser 2. Menu 'File → New → Private Window' » New Browser Window opens with "You are Browsing in a Private Window" info 3. open web page "http://www.funnyordie.com/" » Web page will be opened, Warning bar with single [Preferences] button appears 4. Click [Preferences] » Dialog as per Attachment 8714566 [details] appears Expected: Checkbox "Prevent tracking ..." is checked, because SeaMonkey DOES prevent checking Actual: unchecked Expected: toggling checked / unchecked should have a visible effect Actual: no difference visible a) I tested due to Comment 6 in "about:config" preference "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled" As long as this one is "true", In Private Browsing Windows tracking activity will be blocked. "false" will allow to track, no warning bar will appear on Private Browsing Pages if "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled" is "false" @rexyrexy2@gmail.com Your report is concerning the problem that in dialog appearing in step 4 preference "Prevent tracking ..." does not toggle "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled"?

My report is concerning the issue that there is not a way to toggle that preference from that dialog, yet the preferences button would lead you to believe there is one. (and I believe there should be one, it seems there is enough space)It seems that bar's preferences button is supposed to lead you to a preference to toggle "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled", and yet there is no preference for that on the page it leads to. This could possibly lead to confusion.

A brief history of this problem: 2.26 no "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled" (p.t.p.e) or “Block” 2.33.1 has “Block” preference, but not p.t.p.e “Block” preference works for both, private and not private pages 2.35 as 2.33 2.38: has p.t.p.e, false by default, and “Block” preference “Block” preference works for private and not private in parallel, but has no influence on privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled p.t.p.e and checked “Block” preference do the same for private pages 2.39 same as 2.38, but p.t.p.e TRUE by default So we seem to have - “Block” preference works for both - p.t.p.e only private browsing - “Block” has priority for private browsing Until 2.38 I would have rated this one as an enhancement request: "create UI access for an other hidden preference". But since 2.39 p.t.p.e=true by default, and no normal user can know how to get this preference "false". but also see "c)" FF 47.0a1 (2016-01-29) also has "privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled=true" by default. FF only offers "disable for this site". May be for FF it's intended not to allow normal users to modify p.t.p.e Currenlty I think we should not offer UI to toggle p.t.p.e. Instead we should have some whitelisting like FF([Disable Protection for this Site]. But mi competence for this issue is limited.
