From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:0.9.8+) Gecko/20020201
BuildID: 2002020103
http://www.benyehuda.org has links to diffrent sections on it's main page. those
links contain a backslash instead of a forward slash, and therefore produce a
404 with mozilla. IE/win transalats backslashes to forward slashes, so the link
work for IE/win users.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.go to the above url
2. click on one of the links
Actual Results: 404
Expected Results: slashes should be correct.

The problem may have been caused by automatic generation of HTML pages
via Microsoft Word. This is a problem for not only Mac Mozilla and
Netscape 6.2 or later and Windows Mozilla or Netscape 6.2 or later,
but also for Mac IE users.
For Windows Mozilla/NS users, there is a workaround, if you right-click on
the problem link like:
http://www.benyehuda.org/rachel\
and choose the menu item "Open in a new window", Mozilla seems to re-write
"\" to "/". I wonder if not re-writing "\" to "/" in a document-embedded
URL is a bug in Mozilla. (CC'ing gagan and darin for opinion.)
Anyway, the site owner Asaf Bartov was contacted. Let's see what
he says. Chaging it to assigned.
Thanks, Shoshannah.

cc'ing andreas since he'll most likely have some comment about '\' fixup ;-)

Asaf Bartov responded and said that he changed the "\" to "/".
Shoshannah, can you check the links and see if they work now?
As to what we should do with "\" to "/" and differences in behavior,
let's open a new bug if it is something we should fix.

Right, darin! ;-)
There are already a bunch of bugs about this and the differences in behaviour.
See for example bug 122270. Docshell still does the \-fixup on XP_PC builds.
Going through a new window seems to go through docshell.
This fixup should only happen when mozilla gets fed with a real filepath,
otherwise not. It may be a common error on windows to use \ instead of / but
doing this fixup effectivly prevents looking at some pages which follow the rfcs
to the letter. Why do we punish those people?
A compromise might be to have another kind of fixup that tries different version
of an uri based on from where it is called, something like first try with \, if
that succeeds all is fine, otherwise replace some of the \ with / and try again.

That shound like the best approch to me. Should I file that as a new bug
(assigned to whom?) or should we copy that comment to the relavent bug (what
number)?

Moved my comment over to bug 122270. I proposed that change one or two years
ago, the problem is, it would be in my opinion a major rewrite of the way we
call uris in mozilla. Not likely to happen anytime soon ...
