I would like to have ready access to my home page (as configured in Mozilla),
but do not use (or like) the personal toolbar.

Would it be possible to have some sort of shortcut URL (such as about:home or
about:start) that automatically loads the configured home page?

Yes, I learned about this earlier, and it certainly is very useful.

The reason I ask about this is I saw something similar in Galeon (about:portal I
think), and it was very handy.  I think being able to get to a home page easily
as a URI (or something entered in the location bar) would be quite useful. 
Perhaps it could even be used as a link to a home page (like <a
href="about:home"> if it would work) (this may already be possible using
JavaScript, I don't know, but this seems a much cleaner and easier way of
linking a home page).

I guess I was already going to type the URL in the location bar, and just wanted
a shorter way of typing it there.

Michael: I made a bookmark named "Go To Home Page" with a location of
"javascript:window.home()".  I then went into the properties and set the Keyword
to "home".  Now every time I type "home" in the Location field, I'm taken to my
current home page.

Dean, your suggestions to this point have all been quite useful, but didn't
achieve what I wanted.  Your latest suggestion (making a bookmark with a home
keyword) is very cool, and certainly does what I wanted.

On reflection, the only reason I really wanted this change was opening new tabs
doesn't open my home page anymore (the default behavior was changed, grrr...). 
I'm now pursuing that I can at least have a pref for opening my home page as the
default action when opening a new tab, but I now have less interest in this bug.
 (Altho it may still be a useful idea if someone wants it.)
