I have tried a different profile, didn't work, tried clearing cache, cookies, didn't work, etc. Probable example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV7pPIZXxSk Actual results: I got an error message, though I don't get it when starting the video, but I do get it when I skip through. Started in 42. Expected results: The video would continue. This is a major bug that needs to be fixed. This is extremely crucial.

I've been unable to reproduce on Win10 with either Fx42 or a current nightly build. Reporter, does reverting back to Firefox 41 still work for you? If so, please provide the information requested in comment 1 so we can better diagnose what might be happening.

I wonder what the "YouTube High Definition" addon is doing behind the scenes.
When you tried with a new profile, I assume that was without installing any addons afterwards? Would you be willing to try helping to track down the cause of this? Problems like these can be tickled by very specific configuration issues that can be difficult to reproduce, so there's a much better chance of making progress here if you are. If you're willing to try, grab the mozregression-gui tool from http://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/install.html. Telling it that the last good release was 41 should be enough to get started. Thanks!

I assume this was answering the question about whether the new profile you tried was without any addons? If so, I'd still be interested in what the mozregression tools tells you if you're willing to try it out.

mozregression is a tool to help track down when the problem first started, can you please try it out per comment 6? For difficult to reproduce bugs like this, it's the best chance we have for tracking down the cause and hopefully finding a fix for it.

I hit this bug too on some YT videos but it's not 100% reproducible. I guess it's related to the "performance" of Firefox after being used during a few hours.

You can use mozregression with a custom profile where you're able to reproduce the issue. Use the command --profile=/path --profile-persistence=reuse (see the documentation). It would help a lot to have a pushlog provide by mozregression to catch the bug that introduced this regression in Nightly builds.
I'm now on Firefox 44 and issue still happens.
Hello Jean-Yves, I tried providing what you have done, and it didn't help. In fact, I have upgraded to Firefox 44 and I am still getting this error. I might end up moving to Opera.
Using mozregression is for helping us identifying which version introduced the issue So stating "it didn't help" doesn't make much sense. It can not *not* help. Mozregression will tell you when the problem first occurred. From there we can better understand what the problem is. If you're not willing to use this tools and help us identify the problem that's fine.
Try asking Loic to investigate the issue.
I already did it, but this bug is sporadic. Running mozreg and playing a YT video is not enough to reproduce the issue at 100%.
If you use "Copy Debug Info" from the right click menu then we can send that off to YouTube to get more information from them about the issue.

Maybe it's dupe of bug #1246521. Let's see if we will get more errors on YT from now on.
Hmmm bug 1246521 caused a YouTube invalid state error. Here you got a fmt.decode error. The only decoding error that could happen was when getting opus audio, if you set media.mediasource.webm.audio.enabled to false, do you still get the error? If yes, I may ask you to run a debug build with some log option to get some details about what's going on.

no... no progress, and my questions haven't been answered. Seeing on how popular youtube is, i have no doubt we would have had more reports if it was a common occurrence.

jya has had a needinfo to the reporter for almost 2 months with no reply. We can't move forward without more info, and we're not hearing of any other reports. I'm closing this as INCOMPLETE. If we get more info from the reporter or if we hear of other reports like this, we can reopen this or file a new bug. If we hear back from the reporter, it would be very helpful to know if the reporter can repro this with the latest Nightly and/or DevEdition.

500 internal server error means, that there’s a problem with the configuration of the server an HTTP 500 error is not a problem the end user can solve themselves. But if you’re managing your own ii server and it’s your job to diagnose 500 server errors.
