Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

Steps to reproduce:

System:
OS - Windows 10 Professional (64bit)
Thunderbird Version - 38.4 & 38.5

I created a new email account using an email address "@gmx.at" (provider: gmx.at). I typed in my email address and password (both correct) and clicked on "Done".

Actual results:

Thunderbird displayed an error message like "Could not retrieve configuration files/data. Are username and/or password correct?". I could not finish setting up my mail account.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should have accepted my correct username and password and let me finish setting up my account.

As a workaround, you can click the "advanced config" button to override TB in these cases. If that does not work, first toggle Tb into offline mode, then start the New account wizard.

I am not sure how we can test this problem on the specific server.
Andre, does this reproduce for you?
