Brian thought about this in bug 1132501, where we are attaching the thread on toolbox open. What if the user closed the toolbox before we are done attaching? It would have to be a very quick open/close, but seems possible.

Should the `destroy` method of the toolbox wait until its fully opened?

I don't think this is relevant anymore after 3 years and a lot of code has changed in this area. Not actionable at this stage.
