I'm not sure if this is a product decision Microsoft made but it might be worth looking into and evangelizing if we can. AFAICT the background videos they load in IE are playable in Firefox.

As far as I can tell MS has discontinued these videos - I now see still images on bing.com

They still do video. I'll try using edge for a bit and see if this is still valid. 

My guess is this is probably a decision by ms to provide a better experience in their browsers and there's probably little we can do about it.
