If we open an image whose resolution is large than the viewport of the window, eg
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3c/Ilc_9yr_moll4096.png
there are currently two methods to view parts of the image which are off window.
1. Use mouse wheel:
But since in more than 99% of the mice sold on the market, there is only a vertical mouse wheel, we could only move the image up and down. It's not possible to see zones of the image to the left and right.

2. Middle-click mouse button and move the mouse.

It would be nice to have a third method, hence this request for new feature:
we hold down the left button and move the mouse.

This behaviour is actually consistent with what we expect on mobile devices.
Right now that allows dragging the image (e.g. to ones desktop), right? Don't users expect that behavior, as for images in general?
In any case, this seems like something that needs UX feedback...

Yes, it does. But this dragging only has effect when mouse cursor is outside of the viewport or window. When we are dragging the mouse inside the viewport, there is no effect.

> Don't users expect that behavior, as for images in general?

Yes, but time changes, so as users behavior and expectation.

Summary: RFE: Change behaviour on holding down mouse button on displayed image → RFE: scroll zoomed in image (picture/photo) by dragging it with the mouse pointer
The reporter noted in the duped bug:
> Of course this could conflict with the drag & drop feature. Thus we could use a modifier key
> for the 'grab & drag' feature such as 'Ctrl' or 'Shift' key for example.
Fwiw, I've seen some sites that scrolls images when you simply move the mouse
from one end to the other in the viewport.
