Icons on desktop are a tricky thing: when we have them, we use an .ico that embeds both 16px and 32px.
What you need are:
* 2 images in PNG format. Create a single .ico file using this website http://icoconvert.com/Multi_Image_to_one_icon/
* Convert the .ico file into a data URI with http://freeonlinetools24.com/base64-image
* You can verify that everything works by copying the data URI ("Browser view") in the address bar of a new tab, the image should show up. It's the same line that you need to copy in your XML file later.
There are other websites providing this kind of service, but those 2 have been in my bookmarks for a while and proven reliable.
