Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Build ID: 20160105164030
Steps to reproduce:
Running Firefox 43.0.4 on OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. Recently installed Apple's security updates 2016-001 and Safari 9.0.3. I'm not sure when the problem began, exactly-- up till a few weeks ago, things were fine. All of the software just mentioned was recently updated.
1. Attempted to listen to a .wav attachment in Gmail.
2. Attempted to view a QuickTime video on Apple's PR site.
Actual results:
1. FF offers to open the .wav in an external audio application.
2. Firefox fails to play the video.
Expected results:
1. Firefox should have played the .wav file in a new tab with a scrub bar, play button, and volume control.
2. Firefox should have played the video.
Troubleshooting steps: To test for trouble with the QuickTime plugin on my machine, I did 1 and 2 in Safari. Everything works as expected.
I also created a new Firefox profile as recommended here [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles], to no avail. Same problem.
I dipped into Bugzilla here [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688237] and here [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780284] and followed the suggestions (run Safari first to 'preload' the plugin; delete pluginreg.dat filres and run Firefox in 32-bit mode once), but the trouble persists.
The QuickTime plugin is not listed in the plugins tab of about:addons.
No QuickTime in my Firefox! :(

Also, tested in Nightly on 22 Jan 2016, 21:04 PDT, QuickTime still broken.

> Did you try to reinstall QT?
QuickTime on Mac doesn't appear to have a straightforward path to reinstallation.
