If users closed the homepage, they can not reopen it easily. Althougt users can open it from history, but it is not friendly. I think if there is a button like "Go homepage" maybe more firendly to users.

I think antlam played with the idea of a "homepage" FAB in some of his mocks.

There was some discussion about this in bug 1206155.

Maybe we should consider adding a home button if the user has set a custom homepage. Or a quick shortcut from the menu.
