I could have sworn I filed this bug before, but I can't find it. The gecko search service causes us problems when we need to chase after regressions that were caused by desktop changes. Also, depending on gecko for search engines requires us to wait for gecko to start up before we can show search suggestions in our UI. And finally, we already have a Java search service that we implemented for the search activity, which is under-tested and under-maintained because it is not our primary search service. I think we should go all-in and just maintain a single Java search service.

The meta keyword is there, the bug doesn't depend on other bugs and there is no activity for 12 months.
:st3fan, maybe it's time to close this bug?
