The link to "messaging APIs" is broken in the section for "Communicating with background scripts" located here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions/Content_scripts#Communicating_with_background_scripts
The 404 page suggested filing a bug. Hope this is helpful rather than annoying :(

Not at all annoying :-). Thanks for finding it.
I was (and still am, eventually) planning to write a page on messaging, so I included that link in the expectation that it would eventually have a target. Since I don't expect to find the time to write this page any time soon, it's probably better to remove the link for now anyway. So that's what I've done.
I think this should be OK, since the page goes on to explain which APIs you can use and how to use them.
