Bug 531285 added the possibility to have to have multiple mapping services (URLs) that the user can choose from when clicking the Get Map button inside Thunderbird (an Seamonkey) addressbook. The mapping services are localizable so each translation can define their own URLs. I am not aware that Mozilla or the Thunderbird council would impose any restrictions on what those URLs can be. Anyway, in this bug I ask the Thunderbird Council confirms that we can add a new URL to the SLOVAK localization of Thunderbird. I propose to add these prefs: mail.addr_book.mapit_url.3.name=Freemap.sk mail.addr_book.mapit_url.3.format=http://www.freemap.sk?q=@A1%2C@A2%2C@CI%2C@ST%2C@ZI%2C@CO into the file at: http://mxr.mozilla.org/l10n-central/source/sk/mail/chrome/messenger-region/region.properties The URL does not need to be at position 3 in the list of services. That is at the decision of the localization maintainer. Thanks.
The Thunderbird Council is defined at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules/Thunderbird . Rkent, it would be nice if you could approve or reject this request. Thanks.

I'm not aware of any policy within Thunderbird, either historically or within the current management structure, that sets any policy on setting of these map providers. Are you? I'm happy to get a statement from the Thunderbird Council if needed. On this specific request, I would ask, what is the advantage of this provider over the main open street map site, since they seem to be using the same data?

(In reply to Kent James (:rkent) from comment #2) > I'm not aware of any policy within Thunderbird, either historically or > within the current management structure, that sets any policy on setting of > these map providers. Are you? I am not aware of any, as I stated in comment 0. > On this specific request, I would ask, what is the advantage of this > provider over the main open street map site, since they seem to be using the > same data? OSM is a huge database and no map renderer displays all the data (except editor apps). So the main OpenStreetMap site renders only most common objects and universal to all countries of the world. Country specific rendering sites can render some data from the OSM database that only has a known interpretation defined for the country. On this specific site, at first glance you can see e.g. countour lines, hillshading and hiking route colors rendered when switching to "Tourism" mode. These are not shown on osm.org. Then there are more differences when you know what to look for.
Aceman I'm happy to pursue any official approvals that you might need for this, but right now you are getting some issues sorted that I brought up with Freemap.sk Generally I am happy with the path you are taking, so if there is anything specific that you need from me or the Council please ask again.
