If you look at this URL and try to enter something into the text box, you will notice that the type is accepted at an abnormally slow pace. Also, the cursor inside the box blinks in a strange ways (it seems to mimick the animation of the GIF image on the upper left). I have no idea why this happens.
I can reproduce the crazy blinking, the other doesn't look that show here - mozilla .0.98 + Linux
sounds like icky timer stuff going on (with the blinking).
On Mozilla build 2002020803 on Windows ME on a PIII-866 with 128 MB of RAM, I can reproduce the unusual pattern of insertion point blinking but not the slow response to entered text. Reporter: How fast is your machine?
My machine is a PII-300 with 128 Mb RAM. I reported it because I have *never* seen such a drastical slowing before.
please take a look at http://www.nt-treiberentwicklung.de/mozilla/index.html try the input fields. on my athlon 800 MHz 384 MB it's terrible slow with mozilla 0.9.8 on w2k pro. I know this is heavy html (form on a moveable layer), but IMHO it could be a little bit faster.
happens with build: 2002021803 OS Win 95 OSR 2.0

I've noticed the same problems (Moz 0.9.9 Win 2000). Here i've reproduced the behavior. These urls takes a while to load. In both i create 4000 divs (what the hell are u doing with 4000 divs?!!) and i put a reference to them inside an array. The first reproduces well this bug behavior The second... goes a lot better. The difference is that the divs of the first url are absolutely positioned. In the second not. http://151.38.43.217/mozprobs/prova20.htm http://151.38.43.217/mozprobs/prova21.htm I where saying... what the hell are u doing with 4000 divs? I've noticed the problem in a different context. Let's say a 50/60 images, a 100,150 divs mostly absolutely positioned.
With the build 2002041103 the problem seems to be strongly reduced.

Summary: input type=text has cursor horribly slow and blinking in a strange way → input type=text has caret horribly slow and blinks with animated gif?
This bug actually reports 2 problems: 1. Typing in text widgets is sometimes slow. (Bug 141900) 2. Caret blinks in sync with animated gifs (Bug 54153) I've tried all the urls reported in this bug and all are zippy because of the fixes in bug 141900 which is present in any Mozilla builds beginning with the mozilla1.1beta milestone. http://www.igiochideigrandi.it/www/cerca.htm is no longer accessible. Since the majority of the urls reported in this bug deal with issues pointed out in bug 141900, I'm going to dup this bug against bug 141900. Bug 54153 covers the blinking issue. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 141900 ***
