The case I'm thinking of is when we'd like to schedule tests against (for instance) linux64-asan builds in Taskcluster on try. According to armenzg, scheduling tests for custom build variants from try syntax isn't currently supported.

I can do my best to infer the intent here, can we outline the use case we are trying to solve? I can think of a few things, but would rather not make assumptions.

This is very possible now (and has been for a while, I think).. but without any reply for 7 months probably not important :)
